Curtis Hall (first) opens.

(Aug.) Architect; George Ropes Jr. Originally the West Roxbury Town Hall, the brick and stone building is designed in the Second Empire style and located at 20 South Street. The building and land are donated to the Town of West Roxbury by Nelson Curtis and it serves as the West Roxbury Town Hall until 1874. It also subsequently houses the Jamaica Plain Branch Library. The building is heavily damaged by fire in 1908.* It is rebuilt (second) in 1912.*
